FTTP Broadband Comes to Manchester

The long awaited installation of a breakthrough fibre optic network has now begun in Manchester. The City Council of Manchester made the announcement by telling the city’s residents that they would soon be connected through a highly advanced broadband service in the form of FTTP or Fibre to the Premises enabled broadband network.

The installation work on the new network is on the verge of commencing around the Oxford Road region. The people of Manchester have been quite keenly waiting for the new services as it promises speeds of about 1000 times faster than those currently available. Although, the ultimate end-user speed with an FTTP is seldom found to have gone beyond 100Mbps, it is still a huge improvement from the current levels. The new initiative is a part of the Manchester City Council’s project aimed at bringing a major digital upgrade in the area, called Next Generation Digital City.

The city Councillor, Neil Swannick, has claimed that the execution of the project would ensure that Manchester’s community did not lag behind any of their European counterparts in terms of modern broadband connectivity and available speeds. He went on to add that such faster broadband services were a necessity, and with the completion of the FTTP network, Manchester would be able to compete with other European cities that have so far been clearly ahead in terms of broadband infrastructure. He, however, did acknowledge that when it came to the price of super fast broadband services, places like Paris and Amsterdam were way ahead of any city in the UK.

Mr. Swannick also confirmed reports that this digital endeavour would soon spread to the neighbouring area of East Manchester and would include the creation of a modern Internet Hub in the famous Central Park area.
