Ski Vacations for the Carbon Conscious Snowboarder
Dozens avid snowboarders will soon be looking for their salopettes and scooting away in search of the biggest snow.
And doubtless the result of your carbon footprint will be roughly as far down the list of vacation musts as a Christmas cracker after Christmas.
Just last winter, a slow snow was in the newspaper headlines and holidaymakers were terrified about the smattering of snow dissolving nearly as soon as they landed.
Snowboarding organisation Chalet1802, placed at the bottom of Mont Blanc in Chamonix Mont Blanc in the Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and provide skiers an environmentally friendly choice whilst organising their ski trip.
Chalet1802 owner Andere stated: Last winter was a bit of a surprise with the warmest wintertime in fifty yrs in the French Alps. Famous resorts for example Grand Massif, Le Tour and La Grave has difficulty. It was temperate and the snowfall did not settle so a lot of the early snowboarding season in the mountains was limited. We decided to go carbon neutral to help preserve the ski resort.
Andere said: We are not assaying to dictate to clients only I consider it is crucial to provide the guests the option without raising the cost of the vacation. When the client book with us and takes his annual leave in our chalet Chamonix they can more than off-set their carbon output and we absorb the added prices. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - clients want luxuriousness but not at the expense of the alps mountains, so we considered means of decreasing the affect of a skier flying over here for a ski holiday.”
The business have also partnered with charity Climate Care, who tackles climate change by making C02 reductions on behalf of individuals and companies.
